Campus Ministry
What is Campus
Ministry?
Campus Ministry
recognizes Christ's presence and celebrates His love and life
within and among us. Each person - student, teacher, parents and
other adults, administrators, priests and religious - share in the
faith community life of Towson Catholic High School. It is
through the cooperative efforts of all involved that the faith
community and spiritual life of the school will be nourished to
grow and carry on the message of Jesus Christ and the Church.
By responding to this
call to be a faith community, Towson Catholic High School can be
an ever-deepening experience of Jesus' great commandment-to love
God with one's whole mind, heart and soul, and to love one's
neighbor as oneself.
This is accomplished
through various programs and activities. The students are
involved in creating a school environment that is actively living
the Gospel message through Peer Ministry. Peer Ministry involves
--- Spiritual Life, Social Justice, Catholic Formation and
Art/Environment. Together we plan liturgies, prayer services,
retreats and days of reflection. We celebrate monthly liturgies
and seasonal prayer services. The students are required to attend
a one-day retreat, which is held at the Msgr. O'Dwyer Retreat
House. We also sponsor the True Love Waits Program, which is an
Archdiocesan sponsored Abstinence program. Campus Ministry is
connected with the Archdiocesan Division of Youth and Young Adult
Ministry and we participate in sponsored youth events, like the
Pilgrimage with Cardinal Keeler. We also encourage students to
participate in the leadership workshops offered.
Participating in the
faith life of TC is only one aspect of the student's development
of faith. Students and their families are also encouraged to
participate in their parish liturgies, religious education, youth
ministry and social outreach programs. Please inform the Campus
Minister when a student is receiving the Sacrament of
Confirmation, so we too can welcome that student more fully into
the faith community.
Another dimension of
Campus Ministry is the Community Service Hour Requirements. As
part of our call to discipleship, our response is to be of service
to others in the community. Students participate in meaningful
service and community learning experiences, which assists in
developing students into mature and knowledgeable Christian
citizens through their actions. Community service programs affect
the world around them. |
Service
Requirements
TC’s
service program has two parts.
I: All
students must complete a total of 50 hours of Service, 25 of which must
be outreach. Outreach hours involve face-to-face interaction with the
people being served. Some examples include serving meals at a shelter
or tutoring. The remainder of the 50 total hours may be completed with
indirect service. Indirect service does not have face-to-face
interaction, but assists people who need help. Examples include
preparing meals for a shelter or helping with a clothing drive.
II:
All students must complete an assignment, either a paper or a
presentation. Both hours and assignment must be completed by the first
Friday in May of senior year. At Towson Catholic, service to others is
at the core of our Catholic identity. SENIORS, BE SURE YOU DO NOT PUT
YOUR HOURS OFF! MAY IS COMING FASTER THAN YOU THINK! Freshmen,
sophomores, and juniors, do not put service off until senior year. We
recommend completing 10 hours a year. See Mr. Kolar if you need service
opportunities or have any questions.
Looking for some great websites?
DisciplesNow
is a web sight designed by several youth ministers of the Archdiocese of
Baltimore. This site offers daily scripture readings; seasonal church
related activities and spiritual articles. A chat room for teens and
guests like popular Christian artists and motivational speakers. There
is a priest who answers young people's questions regarding church
teaching and life issues. This is an excellent web site for teens,
parents and teachers.
