Many families like to complete a paper FAFSA worksheet to prepare filling out the online FAFSA.
This can be downloaded from the web site

Applying for a U.S. Department of Education PIN
Now!
The promtional materials tell students that they (and their parents) should apply for our
U.S. Department of Education PIN now if they don't already have one. The materials
also outline many things students can do with a PIN, from signing financial aid
applications, to correcting application data on the Web, to electronically signing loan
promissory notes. Students and parents are encouraged to apply for PINS before they start
filling out the online FAFSA. Applicants who provide an e-mail address on their FAFSA and
sign with a PIN will receive their results in as little as one day!
The First "F" in FAFSA stands for "Free"
A simple Internet search of the word "FAFSA" may provide users with many
for-profit Web sites offering to complete the FAFSA for them - sometimes at a hefty price.
One very important goal of the enclosed materials is to help students and their families
understand that they don't need to pay to apply for federal student aid. We also want
applicants to know tht plenty of free help completing the FAFSA is available by calling
Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID, or on the Web through both the
"Need Help with this Page?" and "Chat" links. And of course, students
are always encouraged to visit their school's financial aid office!
