IMPORTANT: Please do not make other arrangements (e.g. receptions, invitations, etc.) until you have set a date for the Baptism with the
Director of Sacramental Preparation. There are three options for the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism:
-
During a weekend
Mass: When naming the symbols associated with the Sacrament of Baptism, most people would mention water, oil, and perhaps a candle. But the presence of members of the Church community itself is central to the Sacrament. The child being baptized is being welcomed into the Christian family, into the Catholic Church, therefore it is important to both the child and the wider Church that there be witnesses present as a sign of support and fellowship. For this reason, it is ideal to celebrate your child's Baptism within a weekend
Mass.
-
Group Baptisms: For those who would prefer to celebrate the Sacrament outside of Mass, group Baptisms are held on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 2:30 pm. There is a limit of six Baptisms on these Sundays.
-
Private
Baptisms: In special situations, like the Baptism of an older child or the time constraints of out-of-town guests, private Baptisms outside of Mass and the group setting can be celebrated. Parents must make arrangements for such Baptisms by contacting a
priest or deacon
directly. If a member of the clergy outside of the parish is being asked to perform the Sacrament, he needs to notify
the pastor in order to schedule the Baptism.
