Liturgy Committee
|
This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating our liturgies. Giving
praise and worship to God through our liturgical life is the most
important thing that we do as a parish. The activities of the
committee including planning for the following: Sunday Masses,
including the writing of the General Intercessions; preparation of
Bulletin reflections; training, support, and scheduling of
liturgical ministers; preparation of seasonal activities such as
Advent and Lenten Solemn Vespers, Stations of the Cross, Holy Week
and Easter Triduum, as well as Christmas and Easter liturgies;
publication of Eye on Liturgy bulletin inserts quarterly;
liturgies in observance of our national holidays; Forty Hours
Eucharistic devotion and many other events during the liturgical
year.
Membership in the Liturgy Committee is open to
creative, hard-working parishioners who see the celebration of our
liturgies as a festive action in which Christians assemble to
celebrate the love and mercy of God.
|
Eucharistic Ministers
|
Extraordinary
Ministers of the Eucharist (or Eucharistic Ministers) have been
delegated by the Archbishop of Baltimore and commissioned by our
pastor to assist the ordinary ministers of the Eucharist (i.e.,
our parish clergy) in the distribution of Holy Communion. They
assist most frequently at the Sunday and Weekday Masses, in the
nursing homes, and for parishioners who are confined to their
homes.
|
Parish Choir
|
The Choir sings during the
10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass and on special occasions such as the
Christmas Midnight Mass, Holy Week liturgies, Advent and Lenten
Solemn Vespers and occasional concerts. The choir is open to those
persons of high school age and older. No previous musical
experience is necessary since the choir regularly works on such
skills as vocal production and music reading during rehearsals.
Several social events are held each year. Rehearsals are on
Thursday evenings at 8:00 p.m. in the church choir loft.
|
Cantors
|
Cantors lead the congregational
singing at our Sunday Masses and for special liturgies. Membership
is open to men and women of high school age and older. An
interview/audition is required. Cantors are assigned on a rotating
schedule monthly in consideration of each person’s personal
schedule. Rehearsal/Training sessions are held approximately once
a month, usually on a Tuesday evening.
|
Contemporary Music Group
|
The Group leads the congregation in song during the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass and for
special liturgies. Membership is open to men and women of high
school age and older who are singers or instrumentalists (i.e.,
guitar, piano, flute, oboe, or string instrument). Rehearsals are
on Tuesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the church.
|
Lectors
|
Lectors participate in the
Sunday and Weekday Masses and other special liturgies as readers
of the Word of God. Training is provided for those desiring to
serve in this ministry.
|
Altar Servers
|
Students in the fourth
grade and older, who attend the School of Religion or a Catholic
school, may serve. They should have received the Sacraments of
Baptism, Penance, and Eucharist. Altar Servers assist the parish
clergy at Sunday and Weekday Masses, weddings, funerals, and other
liturgies. Training is usually held in the Fall. Permission to
serve must be secured by a parent or guardian.
|
Ushers

They assist the parish by
providing hospitality, discretely maintaining order and dignity at
all liturgies, handling emergencies and accidents, and supervising
the collection of the Sunday offertory.
|
Greeters

This is another ministry of
hospitality in which members greet those arriving for Sunday Mass
in the vestibule of the church. There are two or three greeters
assigned to each Mass. They arrive twenty minutes before Mass.
Volunteers are welcome.
