This is the place to learn everything you need to know about ICS' accelerated reading class. The links will take you to class requirements, homework, and projects that are due or coming up.
Anyone interested in joining the class can review the requirements on the requirements link. You can also view the class requirements according to grade levels
Reading is my PASSION. I would hope that it is or will become a passion for anyone in the class. We do a lot of reading, but discussion and reaction to what we read is an integral part of the program. We delve into the why and how of a story rather than just the facts read.
Each day my classes take a journey in the world of fiction. It is my goal to help each student learn to get LOST in a story or book. There is so much knowledge to gain from exploring the world of books and my literature classes are filled with sponges to absorb that knowledge.
Each class will read literature anthologies which will fulfill the curriculum requirements for the grade level. We will also read three novels per year and grades 4 and 5 will participate in the Great Books Program.
It is also my goal to prepare every middle school student for the challenges he/she will face in high school honors English classes. When they leave the program, they will have the skills and literacy instruction to achieve success in any high school program. I often receive emails from former students letting me know how well prepared they are for future literature courses.
In a nutshell, it is my sincere desire to help my students acquire a wealth of knowledge while having fun. I hope that Literature is a class that they look forward to each day. I hope they smile the way they make me smile.
