Welcome to Mrs. Dressel's 4th Grade

Religion

We have successfully learned to navigate the Bible. We have read from the story of creation through to Isaac. We are currently on the life of Jacob. From Jacob we go to Joseph and then on to Moses.  The class seems to really enjoy learning about the history of God's chosen people.  Please encourage them to talk about the lives of these patriarchs of or faith.

Students will commit to memory a Bible verse every other week.

The purpose of the study of the Old Testament is to provide the students will the big picture view of God’s plan of redemption. The “scarlet thread of redemption” is the study of the Israelites history as it relates to the promise of a messiah to come.  This back round study teaches us the love of God towards mankind, His faithfulness, and His pursuit of a relationship with each of us.

We are currently using our religion book and have begun a study of the The Commandments.

Math

We have completed our first chapter and we are beginning addition.  We will learn the operations in math beginning with addition of whole numbers, money, decimals, and fractions. We will do problem solving as well. We have completed our fraction concepts chapter and are busy starting subtraction.

Social Studies

We will be studying the United States this year. Students will be required to know the states and capitals. We are working on U.S. people, economy, government and regions. We will begin the southeastern region this month.  Students can get a jump by learning the states and capitals in this region. (see text)  We are currently on the Northeast region and busy learning about the Iroquois Confederacy.  We are working in "tribes" to reenact the past.

Language-Arts

We are studying pronouns right now.
